BREAD
Steve's Wholemeal Bread Recipe came about when I read the list of ingredients of our wholemeal bread from the supermarket in Singapore. I was horrified at the length and content! I decided that I definitely did not want to put that in my or my family's bodies. Also, the brand my brother buys in UK stays fresh for weeks..... very worrying as the bread we buy in Spain is rock hard the next day. Surely all you need is flour, yeast, salt, butter and a little water.....
So, I decided it was time to make my own. Unfortunately, my old bread maker from Hong Kong fused the electrics in the house when I switched it on. So that went in the bin.
I searched online for a simply recipe and I found an article in a UK newspaper that experimented with 7 different recipes. I picked the best one, which was simple and, surprisingly, did not need much kneading (apparently, due to the addition of Vitamin C powder) and gave it a go. Yum Yum!
Steve took over bread making when we retired to UK and has subsequently adapted it to his taste - my bread was just a bit too healthy for him being 100% organic wholemeal flour. We all love it! Steve's recipe makes 3 loaves, Original makes 1.
